The prefecture includes several autonomous ethnic counties home to Dong, Miao, Hmong, Tujia, and Yao peoples with distinct traditions.
Language
Huaihua dialect belongs to Southwest Mandarin or Xiang dialect, which may differ significantly from Standard Mandarin.
Transport
Huaihua is a railway hub with high-speed trains to Changsha (~2.5 hr) and Guiyang (~3 hr). Bus #12 connects north and south train stations.
Weather
Four distinct seasons with severe winters (near freezing) and hot, rainy summers (up to 33°C). May-June are wettest months.
