Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is the oldest protected wilderness area in Africa, second oldest in the world, spanning 960 km² of hilly Zululand terrain. International conservation levy: R210/person/night. South Africans pay 50% less. Late gate entry: R500/vehicle. Children 3-12 pay half adult rate.
Packing
Bring drinking water to Mpila—none is provided. Purchase firewood at curio shops or bring your own. Basic food supplies available on-site.
Safety
Strictly observe gate times. No driving without escort after gate closure. Mpila is not fenced—stay within unit boundaries after sunset.
Transport
Rent a car at St Lucia, Durban, or Ballito for self-drive safaris. Avis deals start from R300/day. Driver/guide services available but more expensive.
