Getting in
King Shaka International Airport (IATA: DUR) has flights to most cities. Durban railway station is along Umgeni Rd, about 1 km north of the city centre. Taxis are available from operators like Umhlanga Rocks Taxis, Eagle Taxis, and Shashis taxis.

Getting around
Taxis are common for getting around. Metered taxis are recommended, especially to areas like The Point. The beach promenade is safe for walking, but avoid side roads at night.

Food and drink
Durban is famous for its Indian cuisine, especially Durban curry and bunny chow—a hollowed loaf of bread filled with curry. Good bunny chow can be found at restaurants near the Workshop shopping center or the Indian neighborhood near Victoria Market. For drinks, try Zacks at Wilson's Wharf or Joe Kool's on the beachfront for sunset views.

Things to do
Visit the Golden Mile beaches for surfing and swimming. See uShaka Marine World for its huge aquarium and water park. Catch rugby at Kings Park or cricket at Kingsmead. Explore museums like KwaMuhle Museum on apartheid history and the Old Court House Museum. For a view, take the Skycar at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Stay safe
The beach strip is patrolled with CCTV, but avoid dark, deserted areas and do not go out alone early morning. Avoid Point Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road) at all times. The CBD is empty after dark. Dress down to blend in. Street children can be a problem; keep clear.
