Local specialties include unagi (eel) and gyoza (pan-fried dumplings). Look for unagi pie (unagi pai) as a souvenir.
Language
English is not widely spoken outside tourist offices and international centers. The Hamamatsu Foundation for International Communications and Exchanges (HICE) offers English-speaking assistance.
Money
ATMs are widely available at post offices and convenience stores. Credit cards are accepted at larger shops and hotels, but smaller restaurants and bars may be cash-only.
Transport
The Akaden streetcar is convenient for reaching northern suburbs. Single rides cost ¥200-300. Buses are essential for Kanzanji and the sand dunes.
