Before you go
Connectivity
Cell service is unreliable throughout the reserve. Inform someone of your plans before entering remote areas.
Safety
Carry water on hikes. Watch for wildlife including jaguars and bears. No medical facilities exist within the reserve.
Transport
State highway 58 is the main access road. No public transit serves the reserve; rent a car or arrange a tour from Ciudad Valles.
Weather
Lower elevations are hot (30°C+) in summer; upper elevations freeze in winter. Dry season December-February offers easiest access.
