Curacautín is a small town of 16,500 people serving as the gateway to some of Southern Chile's most dramatic volcanic landscapes. The area is known for its natural environment, with Conguillío and Tolhuaca National Parks nearby, plus Malleco and Malalcahuello-Nalcas National Reserves.

Activities
Hot springs, trekking in Conguillío National Park, and skiing at Corralco resort are the main draws. Park entry for foreigners costs 4,100 pesos adults.
Money
Prices quoted in Chilean pesos (CLP). Bio Bio return tickets cost 6,300 pesos. Minibus fares are 1,500 pesos one-way.
Transport
Curacautín Express minibuses run every 30 minutes from Temuco's Terminal de Buses Rurales (1,500 pesos, 1½ hours). Bio Bio buses offer 9 daily services via Victoria.
Weather
Summer (Dec-Mar) best for deep hiking access; winter (Jun-Aug) ideal for snowshoeing and skiing with views of three volcanoes.
