Overview

Chobe National Park in northeast Botswana is the third largest national park in the country, covering 10,566 km² along the Chobe River which forms the park's northern boundary. The park is famous for its vast herds of elephants—estimated at around 50,000 Kalahari elephants, the largest in Africa—as well as exceptional birdwatching with fish eagles, storks, plovers, and kingfishers along the riverine landscapes.

Fees

Non-resident entry fees are P120 adults and P60 children (8-17) as of March 2023. Children under 8 enter free. Additional fees apply for private vehicles and campsites.

Food

No food or drink sold within the park. Basic picnic areas available—bring all supplies from Kasane. Only Chobe Game Lodge provides on-site dining.

Health

Chobe is a malaria zone. Consult a doctor about prophylaxis before visiting and bring appropriate medication, insect repellent, and protective clothing.

Transport

4WD vehicles essential for self-driving. Roads are sandy when dry and muddy when wet. Off-road driving prohibited. Guided safari vehicles and boat tours available from Kasane.
