SIM cards and WiFi are less developed than mainland Japan. Arrange data plans before arriving. The sightseeing center can provide local information.

Dress modestly at shrines and cultural sites. Remove shoes when entering homes and some traditional establishments. Be respectful of local customs in this rural community.

Small hospital in Chabana (+81 997 97-2511). For serious medical issues, evacuate to Kagoshima or Okinawa. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential.
Language
Almost no spoken or written English exists on Yoron. Learn basic Japanese phrases and carry a translation app. Be friendly and patient.
Money
Japan uses yen (¥). ATMs are limited on Yoron; bring sufficient cash from mainland or larger islands. Credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels.
Safety
Yoron is generally very safe with low crime. Standard precautions apply. Limited medical facilities mean preparation is key.
Transport
Ferries are the main access from Kagoshima (¥13,000 round trip, ~18 hours). Buses run circuits several times daily. Rent a car with an International Driving Permit for flexibility.
