Overview

Yasuni National Park is the most biodiverse place on Earth, where thousands of species concentrate in an area along the equator where the Andes mountains give way to the Amazon basin. Naturalists find 121 reptile species, 382 to over 500 fish species, 596 bird species, 117 bat species, and more than 100,000 insect species.

Before you go

Health

Get yellow fever and typhoid vaccines before visiting. The park has over 100,000 insect species - use industrial-grade DEET repellent.

Transport

Fly LATAM from Quito to Coca (about US$100, 30 min), then 4-hour motorized canoe ride to the park.

Water

Don't drink from natural water sources. Use only potable water provided at lodges or by tour guides.

Weather

Warm year-round at 26°C average. Rain is likely any time; driest months December-February still see daily showers.
