Overview
Masaya is one of the few volcanoes in the world where you can drive right to the crater rim and peer into an active caldera. The sulfuric smoke plumes rising from the main crater create a dramatic, otherworldly atmosphere.

Connectivity
Cell service is available but WiFi is not present in the park. Visitor center has basic facilities only.
Food
No food available in the park. Restaurant across from the main gate. Full dining options in Masaya town.
Money
Park entrance fee is C$70 for foreign visitors (February 2023). Additional C$60 for guided cave tours. No ATMs at the park—bring cash from Managua or Masaya.
Safety
Stay within designated viewing areas. Volcanic gases can be hazardous. The 2001 explosion hurled rocks 60 cm to the visitor center.
Transport
15 minutes from Managua by car. Buses between Managua and Granada pass the KM23 entrance. Road is fully paved to the crater rim.
Weather
Can get chilly at the summit, especially after dusk. Bring layers and sun protection—there's no shade at the top.
