Before you go
Accommodation
Only camping is available inside the park at Los Fogones campsite. All other accommodation requires staying in nearby towns like Boquete.
Connectivity
Cellular towers near the summit provide mobile coverage, but WiFi is not available in the park.
Packing
Bring a tent, cold-weather sleeping bag rated for near-freezing temperatures, waterproof gear, layers, flashlight, and ample water for the challenging hike.
Safety
The steep 4x4 road to the summit can be dangerous, especially in wet conditions. Bring a flashlight for early morning summit hikes. Register at the park entrance.
Transport
Access is via a rough 4x4 road from Boquete, Volcán, or Cerro Punta. Public buses connect Boquete to Panama City and David. Local taxis and buses from la cruz cost around $1 to Boquete.
Weather
Climate varies dramatically by altitude. Higher elevations are cold and wet; bring layers and waterproof gear regardless of conditions in lower areas.
