Overview
Ukmergė is a small provincial town in northern Lithuania with a population of 21,000 (2023). It was first mentioned in 1225 as Vilkmergė, possibly meaning 'farm girl' or 'she-wolf' – the local brewery and football team prefer the latter interpretation.
