Overview
Ueda is a historic city in Nagano Prefecture best known for Ueda Castle, the ancestral seat of the Sanada clan who famously defeated Tokugawa forces twice in the 16th century. The city offers a compelling mix of samurai history, Zen temples in the nearby Bessho Onsen district, and access to Japan's northern Alps ski resorts.
