Overview
Turangi is a small town of 3,840 residents (2023) at the southern tip of Lake Taupo in New Zealand's Central North Island. The town exists primarily as a service center for trout fishing on the famed Tongariro River and as a base for visitors heading to Tongariro National Park.

Shuttle services connect Turangi to both ends of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Mountain Shuttle operates from Ketetahi to Mangatepopo ($35 adults, $25 children).
