Before you go
Accommodation
Budget rooms start at BZ$50/night; most lodges include meals. Tent camping possible at Fairweather Place. Checkout is 10AM.
Connectivity
Internet at Marine Station costs BZ$15/hour for computers or BZ$10/hour for personal devices. Free WiFi at Reef's End bar.
Food
Meals are communal at lodge restaurants at 7AM, noon, and 6PM. Snack stand at Gaviotas has imported goods. No other restaurants exist.
Health
Mosquitoes and sandflies are scarce. Sunscreen essential for boat trips and water activities.
Money
Belize Dollar (BZD) is the local currency, pegged at BZ$2 = US$1. Some lodges quote prices in USD.
Safety
Very safe island with low crime. Rocky shoreline—use piers for water access.
Transport
Access is exclusively by boat from Dangriga, 20-30 minutes, costing BZ$60. Boats depart Dangriga dock around 8:30-9AM daily.
