Why Go?
Hopkins is one of Belize's few Garifuna villages, offering an authentic cultural experience alongside Caribbean beach life. The village stretches 3 miles along a pristine beach with direct access to the Belize Barrier Reef for snorkeling and diving. Unlike tourist-heavy destinations, Hopkins maintains a relaxed, local atmosphere while offering budget-friendly accommodation, drumming lessons, and proximity to jungle waterfalls and wildlife sanctuaries.

Getting In
Hopkins sits 4 miles east of the Southern Highway in Stann Creek District. The most common approach is flying into Belize City, then taking a bus or shuttle south to Dangriga, and continuing to Hopkins. A local bus arrives in Hopkins around 7AM daily except Sunday, making doorstop pickups throughout the village. Taxis can be negotiated from Dangriga or the highway junction.

When to Go

Weekend drumming performances at the local drumming center provide cultural immersion year-round. The night river tour for crocodiles and bioluminescence operates seasonally - check with local operators for availability.
