Tingri is a dusty, military-scarred town on the Friendship Highway that most travelers only visit en route between Xigatse and the Nepal border. Its main appeal is practical: it's the last major Chinese town before the Rasuwa border crossing and serves as an overnight base for those heading to Qomolangma National Nature Reserve.
