Overview
Tehuacán is one of the oldest areas of human settlement in Mexico, believed to be where corn was first domesticated nearly 9,000 years ago. In 2025, archaeologists confirmed cave paintings near the city are at least 10,000 years old—older than any known Mesoamerican civilization.
