Getting there
Tamworth Airport handles regular Qantas flights from Sydney (up to six daily on weekdays) plus Virgin Australia services, with car hire and taxis available at the terminal. Train access is via NSW TrainLink with daily services from Sydney via Werris Creek, and a connecting coach from Armidale. Driving from Sydney takes roughly 4-5 hours via the New England Highway. Note that coach services no longer run the inland Sydney-Brisbane route; all buses now use the coastal Pacific Highway.

Getting around
The main Peel Street mall and riverside parks are walkable in about 20 minutes with pedestrian and cycle paths. A local bus company operates services on weekdays and Saturdays. During the January Country Music Festival, special circuit buses serve the city. For anything beyond the compact CBD, a car is strongly recommended as the city spreads out and public transport frequency is limited.

When to visit
The Tamworth Country Music Festival in late January is the peak period, drawing huge crowds with performances at venues like the Golden Guitar. Summer (December-February) brings warm weather ideal for enjoying the river parks and outdoor attractions. Winter months (June-August) see cooler temperatures but thinner crowds and lower accommodation rates. Spring offers pleasant conditions for the Botanic Garden and scenic lookouts.
