Takeo and its hot springs have existed for over a thousand years, making it a historic onsen destination in western Japan. The city is best known for Takeo Shrine's Great Camphor Tree, a 3000-year-old sacred tree considered a powerful spiritual spot, and Mifuneyama Rakuen Garden, an expansive 1845 landscape garden below Mount Mifune.
