Overview
St George's is the volcanic-crater capital of Grenada, built around a natural harbor (the Carenage) that shelters ships from Atlantic hurricanes. French colonists called it Fort Royal; the British renamed it after capturing the island in 1762.

Accommodation
Town accommodation is limited; most visitors stay in Grand Anse (minutes away) which appears as "St George's" on booking sites. Several town properties were closed for renovation in early 2023.
Connectivity
4G available from Flow and Digicel as of 2023. 5G not yet rolled out in Grenada.
Culture
Spicemas carnival in August is the biggest event—two weeks of parades with tar-daubed jab-jabbers embracing bystanders. Independence Day February 7 brings island-wide celebrations.
Food
Restaurants cluster around the Carenage waterfront. Patrick's Restaurant offers home-style cooking with vegan options. Supermarkets near the bus terminal provide self-catering alternatives.
Safety
Normal Caribbean urban precautions apply. Town has become run-down; most tourist infrastructure shifted to Grand Anse. Discovery Train recommended for those anxious about walking alone.
Transport
St George's is the island transport hub; minibuses and taxis converge here. The Discovery Train offers hourly tours from the Esplanade Mall near the cruise terminal.
Weather
Dry season November-May best for cricket and outdoor activities. Hurricane risk exists but Grenada is less vulnerable than northern Caribbean islands.
