Overview
Sosnowiec is an industrial city of about 187,000 residents in the Silesian Voivodeship of southern Poland, forming part of the GZM metropolis centered on Katowice, 10 km west. The city grew mainly in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a coal and textile centre, earning the local nickname "city of four cultures" reflecting the diverse communities that shaped it.
