Overview
Sepilok is a small town in Sabah, Borneo, 26 km from Sandakan, world-famous for its Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre established in 1964. The town also houses the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (the only sun bear sanctuary in the world) and the Rainforest Discovery Centre with its dramatic 347 m canopy walkway.

Limited eating options in Sepilok. Kantin Sepilok offers best value (RM6-8 meals) but only weekday lunches. Cafeteria near Orangutan Centre gets crowded with tour groups.
Health
Apply insect repellent before entering rainforest areas (dengue risk). No food or water allowed into Orangutan Centre; free lockers provided at entrance.
Money
No banks or ATMs in Sepilok. Bring sufficient cash from Sandakan. Nearest ATM at Mile 8 (taxi RM30-40). Most places accept cash only.
Transport
Taxis from Sandakan cost RM40 one way (30-40 minutes). Local taxi to attractions costs RM35-60. Grab service available but wait times can be long.
Weather
Rain falls year-round in Borneo. Afternoon feedings (3PM) often have better wildlife sightings as orangutans become more active in cooler conditions.
