Limited hotels mainly for tourist visa holders: Hotel Volga, Olympia, Zagreb, and Slovakia. Apartments available 600-900 RUB/night through local contacts. Register with OWIR within 3 days of arrival.

Saratov was third-largest Russian city in early 20th century. Significant Volga German heritage remains in traces. Classical music, opera, ballet, and historic theater available.
Money
Credit cards are widely accepted even in small businesses, but foreign VISA/MasterCard cards are not accepted as of 2022. Bring cash in RUB or EUR/USD to exchange at banks (limited hours during Christmas). SBP QR code payment works if you have a Russian bank account.
Safety
Watch for falling icicles from roofs and balconies in winter—look for warning signs with upward-pointing fingers. Avoid stray dogs as they may carry rabies.
Transport
Marshrutkas and trams are main public transport. Walking across the Saratov Bridge (2.8 km) is not recommended. Most major streets are one-way.
Weather
Harsh continental climate: winters reach -10°C with heavy snow coverage, summers reach 26-28°C. Best months for sightseeing are May through September.
