San Fernando is Trinidad's busy second city, built on hills including the most famous in Trinidad - San Fernando Hill. It is very much a carnival city, experiencing a full build-up to its own wide assortment of competitions in Skinner Park as well as energetic parades.

The Pointe-à-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust offers guided tours (admission $5) of a wetland habitat near an oil refinery, home to endangered birds.
Transport
The Uriah Butler–Solomon Hochoy Highway connects San Fernando to Port of Spain. Water taxis cross the Gulf of Paria from Port of Spain to San Fernando's Water Taxi Terminal on Lady Hailes Avenue.
