Overview
Samothrace is a small Aegean island with an unusual profile: despite being in the typically arid Cyclades region, it is surprisingly lush and green thanks to rainfall on its central mountain, Fengari (1660 m). The island was a major sanctuary from the Bronze Age to Roman times, and the Sanctuary of the Great Gods here once rivaled Delphi in importance.
