Overview
Samokov is a historic mountain town of about 24,000 people, serving as the gateway to the Rila ski resorts of Borovets and Malyovitsa. The town's name derives from the large water-powered trip hammers (samokov) used to crush iron ore from surrounding mountains, a craft tradition you can see recreated at the Water Hammer Forge.
