Overview
Rustenburg is the largest city in South Africa's North West Province with a population of 550,000 as of 2011. Founded in 1851, the city went through altercations during the Anglo-Boer Wars and experienced unprecedented growth in the early 21st century.

Rustenburg lies along the N4 highway connecting it to Pretoria. Local public transport options are limited; driving or organized tours are recommended for reaching nearby attractions.
Weather
Summers (December-February) are very warm with rainfall; winters (June-August) are mild. The altitude keeps summer temperatures more moderate than expected.
