Overview
Rožaje is primarily a transit town at the northern edge of the Accursed Mountains, serving as the last stop before entering Kosovo from Montenegro. With a population of 9,400 (2011), the town has a predominantly Bosniak population creating an Islamic architectural character with several historic mosques.

Accommodation
Budget accommodation around €10/person exists but requires asking at restaurants on the main street. Hotel Rožaje was temporarily closed as of September 2021.
Language
Serbo-Croatian is primary. Albanian minority speaks both languages. Some English among younger generation and diaspora communities from Western Europe and North America.
Safety
Winter driving requires extreme caution due to winding roads, poor maintenance, and avalanche risks especially on P8 road to Kosovo.
Transport
Buses connect Kosovo, Novi Pazar (Serbia), and Podgorica. Taxis display 'TAXI' bumpers. Roads are winding and poorly maintained with avalanche risks in winter.
