Getting there

Rosario is accessible by bus from Buenos Aires (4-5 hours, frequent departures), Córdoba (5-6 hours), and Santa Fe city. The city has two railway stations: Rosario Norte on Av. del Valle 2730 (1.5 km northeast of centre) and Rosario Sur on Av. San Martín 6230 (in southern suburbs). The main bus terminal is Mariano Moreno on Cafferata 702, located 2 km west of the city centre.

Get around

The city centre is walkable, with pedestrian streets like the Paseo del Siglo along Córdoba Street from Bv. Oroño to the Flag Memorial. City Center Rosario (Bv. Oroño y Av. Circunvalación) offers the largest casino in South America with daily concerts and events. Local buses connect the wider metro area.

Budget accommodation options include Cool Raul Hostel (San Lorenzo 1670), a relaxed hostel near the main shopping strip with friendly hosts offering 10% discounts for Minihostels members. Hostel Allegro Piu (Crespo 978) near the bus terminal offers clean facilities in a larger setting. Livin' Residence Rosario (3 de Febrero 2505) provides apartment units for longer stays.

Food and drink

Rosario offers excellent asado and empanadas at Parrilla la Estancia (Av. Pellegrini 1510) alongside quality wine. For budget eats, Rincon Vegetarian Restaurant on Mitre St between Córdoba and Santa Fe serves an all-you-can-eat buffet for ARS$11—ideal for a break from steak. The city is known for craft beer, with microbreweries popping up across neighborhoods. Nightlife starts late, often around 02:00, and the city has a notably skewed woman-to-man ratio.

Things to do

The National Flag Memorial (Monumento Histórico Nacional a la Bandera, Sta Fe 581) commemorates flag creator Manuel Belgrano. El Che Guevara's birthplace (corner of Urquiza St and Entre Rios St) is not open to the public as of 2019. Parque de la Independencia is one of the country's largest parks, while the Acuario del Río Paraná (Av. Eduardo Carrasco) showcases Paraná River ecosystem. Sports fans can visit Estadio Gigante de Arroyito, Rosario Central's historic home that hosted 1978 World Cup matches.

Safety

Tourist areas are not more dangerous than Buenos Aires or Córdoba, though the city has a reputation as a drug-trafficking hub earning the nickname "Little Chicago." Theft has risen in recent years with reports of wallets, phones, and jewelry stolen even in daylight. Avoid walking alone in quiet areas, especially at night—stick to crowded zones. If mugged, cooperate with demands, leave immediately, and report to police (generally friendly though recovery rates are low). Never enter the "villas" (slums) scattered on city outskirts; one exists near Alto Rosario shopping centre between Vera Mujica and Av. Francia Bis.

Connectivity

Mobile coverage is good throughout the city for Argentine carriers. WiFi is widely available in hostels, cafes, and restaurants. Power outlets use Type I plugs (Australian/Chinese style, 220V).

Budget

Rosario is notably cheaper than Buenos Aires. Hostel dorms start around ARS$1,500-2,500, while street food and empanadas cost ARS$50-150. Bus fares are cheap, and many museums are free or low-cost.

Day trips

Cross the Paraná River by boat from the passenger terminal near the Flag Memorial to reach the islands with their own beaches, bars, and restaurants. Santa Fe city is reachable for a day trip, as is the town of Paraná.
