Rausu is one of two gateways to Shiretoko National Park, Japan's northernmost and most pristine wilderness area. The small fishing town is famous for whale watching cruises in the Nemuro Strait, free open-air hot springs along the coastline, and as a base for climbing Mount Rausu.
