Before you go
Food
Seafood restaurants cluster around the northern estuary area. Doña Hilda is known for excellent fresh fish and lobster.
Safety
Powerful waves, strong currents, and rip tides make ocean swimming dangerous. No lifeguards on duty. Use the calmer estuary instead.
Shopping
Small pulperías for basics. Major shopping requires a trip to the Sutiava municipal market or supermarkets in León.
Transport
Buses and shuttles connect Poneloya with León in under 30 minutes. Distances within town are small and best covered on foot.
