Overview
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is the principal entry point to Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, a remote volcanic wonderland with 300+ volcanoes, brown bear habitats, and dramatic Pacific coastline. The city of roughly 180,000 residents (2018) offers good tourist infrastructure despite its isolation—furthest from Moscow of any Russian regional capital.
