Overview
Perast is a minuscule baroque town of fewer than 400 residents perched at the tip of a peninsula in the Bay of Kotor. Its appeal lies in deliberate simplicity: two offshore islands (one artificial), a handful of stone churches, and a waterfront promenade that takes just 15-20 minutes to stroll end to end.

Before you go
Connectivity
Wi-Fi is available at hotels (free at Palace Jelena, though it can be intermittent). Mobile data requires a local SIM (Telenor, mtel, or A1) from a shop in Kotor or Budva.
Language
Montenegrin is the local language; Serbian, Bosnian, and Albanian are also spoken. English is common in tourist-facing businesses but limited elsewhere.
Money
Montenegro uses the Euro (€) despite not being an EU member. Credit cards are accepted at hotels and some restaurants but not universally—carry cash for smaller establishments and tips.
Safety
Very low crime. Main risks are uneven cobblestones, sea-swimming hazards (no lifeguards), and summer heat on the mountain hike.
Transport
Perast is walkable in 15-20 minutes. No local bus service within town. Kotor and Budva buses stop at the bay road; a car or organized tour is easiest for arriving.
Weather
Hot, humid summers (July-August) with temperatures reaching 30-35°C. Best visited May-June or September-October for milder weather and fewer crowds.
