Overview
Patmos is one of the most religious Greek islands, where Saint John the Divine received his visions and wrote the Apocalypse. Coachloads of pilgrims visit the Cave of the Apocalypse, but the island also offers quiet villages, scenic walking paths, and beautiful beaches like Psilli Ammos.

Culture
Patmos is deeply Orthodox and receives many pilgrims. Dress modestly when visiting the monastery and cave. Keep noise low in religious spaces.
Food
Fish is pricey due to Mediterranean overfishing. Look for tavernas growing their own produce. Don't remove stones from Lampi beach.
Money
Greece uses euros. ATMs available in Skala. Most tavernas and hotels accept cards, but carry cash for small vendors and beach tavernas.
Transport
No airport—access by ferry only. Skala is the main port. Buses run hourly between Skala and Chora. Taxis charge both ways.
Weather
Hot, dry summers; mild winters. Best visited in spring or autumn for comfortable walking. Summer temperatures can be extreme on the hilly island.
