Overview
Pachmarhi is the sole hill station in central India, perched at 3,500 ft in the Satpura range. Discovered by Captain James Forsyth in 1857, it served as the summer capital for British troops in the Central Provinces.

Hotels are plentiful in the market area. Youth Hostel 2 km from bus stand offers the cheapest beds. Budget rooms from ₹550–₹800.
Activities
Cave paintings, waterfalls, colonial churches, and Satpura National Park wildlife. Bring swimwear for bathing pools. Chauragarh trek requires fitness and supplies.
Food
Gujarati, Maharashtrian, and Jain food dominate. Chunmun Cottage near Bee Fall is highly recommended. Local honey and ayurvedic products are regional specialties.
Money
ATMs available in town. Carry some cash as small vendors may not accept cards. Prices quoted in rupees.
Transport
Gypsy taxis are the main form of transport; share them to save costs. No direct rail to Pachmarhi—nearest station is Piparia (70 km).
Weather
Best visited October–March. Summer brings relief from plains heat but crowds increase. Monsoon (July–September) creates spectacular waterfalls but slippery trails.
