Overview

Festivals
The Ya Ya Matsuri (Feb 1-5) is the biggest event with sake-drinking men diving into the sea. Summer brings fireworks at Owase Port Matsuri. Check local schedules as events may be affected by weather.
Food
Seafood is the local specialty. Try sashimi at Oni Gawara, the Sunday buffet at Yume Kodo (¥1200), or budget lunch sets at Inaka (¥800). Kuki's tiger rolls are a local sweet treat.
Hiking
The Kumano Kodo Ise-ji Route passes through Owase with Magose Toge as a popular day hike. Trail information available at the Kumano Kodo Centre near JR Osoneura Station.
Transport
JR Owase Station is the main access point on the Kisei Main Line. Kisei Bus connects the station to nearby attractions. National Highway Route 42 passes through the city center.
