Overview
Orange Walk Town is the capital of the Orange Walk district, situated 57 miles (95 km) north of Belize City. This agricultural town is not a tourist hotspot but serves as an excellent base for explorations of Northern Belize, particularly the famous Mayan ruins at Lamanai.

Food
Street vendors sell breakfast tacos and salbutes in the morning. Local staples include barbecued chicken, rice and beans, and flour tortillas. Chinese restaurants are plentiful and reliable.
Money
Belize uses the Belizean dollar (BZD) pegged at 2:1 to USD. US dollars are widely accepted. Euros and USD can be exchanged at Belize Bank or Scotia Bank on Main Street. Baba's store near the clock tower exchanges Mexican pesos.
Safety
Walking alone at night is not safe. Avoid being out after dark, especially alone or in pairs. The town is generally safe during daylight hours.
Transport
The Northern Highway connects Orange Walk Town to Belize City in about 1 hour. Buses to Belize City take approximately 2 hours. A toll booth is located on the approach from Belize City.
Weather
Caution is needed during the wet season when road conditions deteriorate. Sugar cane season brings large trucks to the roads.
