Overview
The New Forest is one of two national parks in England's densely populated South East, making it a rare escape into ancient woodland, open heathland, and free-roaming ponies. It draws British campers in huge numbers during summer, but the forest's network of Forestry Commission campsites, pretty villages like Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst, and attractions like Paulton's Park keep families coming back year after year.

Accommodation
Forestry Commission campsites are the main budget option. Book well ahead for summer weekends. Lyndhurst has the most services.
Money
Currency is British Pounds (GBP). Card payments are widely accepted in the UK, but carry some cash for village camp stores and small purchases.
Safety
Do not feed or approach the free-roaming ponies. Keep distance from deer, especially during autumn rutting season. Ponies may kick if threatened.
Transport
The New Forest Tour open-top bus runs hourly in summer. Car is most flexible; the A31 and M27 provide access. Brockenhurst has bike hire.
Weather
Unpredictable weather year-round. Summer can be warm (up to 28°C) or rainy. Winter brings frost, occasional snow, and overcast skies. Early summer is best for camping.
