Safety

Violence can occur around the city centre at weekends around pub and club closing times (around 11PM and 2AM). Somerstown, a high-rise council estate south of the city centre, is the main crime hotspot and should be avoided after dark. Buckland north of the city centre should also be avoided at night. Petty crime is a concern - nothing should be left on display in vehicles. Football rivalry with Southampton FC is intense; wearing Southampton colors (red and white vertical stripes) may cause problems.
