Overview
Mycenae is one of Greece's most significant Bronze Age archaeological sites, dating to the 2nd millennium BC. This ancient citadel was the center of Mycenaean civilization and is home to the famous Lion Gate, massive Cyclopean walls, and royal tomb circles excavated by Heinrich Schliemann.

Accommodation
Mycenae is a small town; most visitors stay in Nafplio (25 km away) which offers full range of hotels, hostels, and restaurants.
Museum
The Mycenae Archaeology Museum, 1.9 km northeast of town, displays small finds and replicas of Schliemann's famous gold discoveries (originals in Athens). Open 08:30-15:00 except public holidays.
Transport
KTEL buses run from Nafplio to Mycenae (€2.90). From Athens, take a bus to Fichti village (€11.80), then taxi 4 km to the site.
Visiting
The archaeological site can be explored in 3-4 hours. Bring water and sun protection; limited shade within the excavation areas.
