Overview
Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh and one of the most populous cities in northern India, renowned as the "City of the Nawabs." The city thrived along the banks of the Gomti river and was the heart of North Indian culture for centuries, famous for its adab and tehzeeb (manners and etiquette), intricate chikankaari embroidery, beautiful gardens, and kathak dance. It was also one of the sites of the 1857 Indian Mutiny, with remnants of its rich cultural past still visible throughout the city.

Food
Famous for Awadhi and Mughlai cuisine. Must-try: galawati kebabs, nihari, biryani, and chikan embroidery work. Budget ₹100-300 per meal at good eateries.
Language
Hindi and Urdu are the primary languages. Lucknow's Hindi is considered the most refined in India. English is widely understood.
Money
India's currency is the Indian Rupee (₹). Credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants but cash is preferred at street vendors and small shops.
Transport
Charbagh is the main railway station (LKO). Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are common for short distances. Metro Red Line connects airport to Charbagh.
Weather
Best visited October-March (13-32°C). Summers are extreme (up to 40°C). Monsoon (July-August) brings heavy rainfall.
