Overview
Laguna de Apoyo is a nature reserve centered on a volcanic crater lake about 6 km in diameter and 175 m deep. The lake's small, forested drainage area with minimal agriculture makes its waters remarkably transparent compared to Lake Cocibolca.

Connectivity
The Peace Project Hostel offers free WiFi with a stable signal, unusual for the area. Other accommodations have limited connectivity.
Money
Prices are quoted in US dollars. Day passes at resorts cost around US$6. Grocery prices are higher than in Masaya but reasonable.
Transport
Public buses stop near The Peace Project. Paradiso Hostel runs shuttles from Granada twice daily. The only access road is paved from the northwest crater rim.
Water
The crater lake has warm, transparent water year-round. Water depth increases very quickly from shore. Southern shore is mostly wild and undeveloped.
Weather
Prevailing east/southeast winds strengthen through the morning. Early mornings offer calmer conditions for kayaking. Southeastern bays are sheltered from wind.
