Beach Hostel (La Balconada) offers beachside dorms from US$15, popular with backpackers. Choclo hostel has a 10-bed dorm and double rooms with nightly campfires at U$425. Prices increase in January-February peak season.
Money
Banco República is the only reliable and free ATM in La Paloma, located in the center at the southern end of the two-lane parade. The ATM may not work on Sundays—withdraw cash earlier in the week.
Transport
No public transport exists within La Paloma; walking works for most distances. Bicycles can be rented at hostels, useful for reaching Rocha Lagoon or La Pedrera. Intercity buses serve the town from most southern Uruguay destinations.
Weather
La Paloma is a summer destination with peak tourism in January and February. Summer offers active nightlife but higher prices. Off-season provides quieter conditions.
