Kunshan is a county-level city in Jiangsu province situated between Shanghai and Suzhou, approximately 50 km from central Shanghai and 37 km from Suzhou. It serves primarily as a transit point and residential area for expats working in the Shanghai area, though it offers access to nearby ancient water towns and traditional Chinese gardens.

Summers are hot and humid (28-33°C, June-August with 150-200 mm rain). Winters are cool (8-11°C) with less precipitation. Spring and autumn offer milder conditions.
