Overview
Ko Mak is one of Thailand's rare islands still largely in the hands of a single extended family descended from a royal tax collector, with 80% of the island owned by Luang Prompakdee's descendants. The island is piloting Thailand's first environmentally friendly, low-carbon destination with hydroponic farms, a biogas plant, solar-powered tour boats, and an electric hop-on hop-off bus service.
