Buy
Kibuye Market is the second-largest open-air market in Kenya, operating day and night. Local crafts make excellent souvenirs: nyatiti and orutu musical instruments (Luo culture), soapstone objects (craft center in Kisii, 100 km south), sisal woven items like kiondo handbags, papyrus or water hyacinth crafts, vikoi/kanha loincloths, and batik paintings. The Kisumu Municipal Market on Nairobi Road has craft stalls and soapstone. Main Market on Jomo Kenyatta Highway specializes in textiles (kikoi, kanga, batik). Pendeza Weaving on Nairobi Road is another textile market.
