Overview

Keda is a small mountain town about an hour east of Batumi, sitting at the confluence of the Acharistsqali and Akavreta rivers in Georgia's Autonomous Republic of Adjara. The town is known for its wine production—particularly the chkhaveri and tsolikouri grape varieties—as well as apiaries and proximity to historical and ecological sites.

Climate

Keda has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold, wet winters. At 84 inches of annual precipitation, it is one of Georgia's rainiest areas. Summer is the driest season for visiting.

Food

Maspindzeli offers traditional Georgian cuisine including khinkali and Acharuli khachapuri for 20-30 GEL. Ra-Da Shuarma provides budget fast food for around 12 GEL.

Money

Both Maspindzeli restaurant and Ra-Da Shuarma are cash-only establishments. ATMs may be limited in Keda; obtain Georgian Lari (GEL) in Batumi before visiting.

Safety

Exercise caution near the main traffic circle where road curvature limits visibility. River swimming in the Acharistqali is risky during spring and after heavy rains.

Transport

Keda is about one hour east of Batumi by marshrutka or taxi. The town has a bus station with regional connections. Within town, distances are walkable.
