Overview
Kecskemét is the county seat of Bács-Kiskun, Hungary's largest county, positioned roughly equidistant between Budapest and Szeged at about 90 km from each. The city is celebrated for its striking Secessionist (Art Nouveau) architecture, earning it the nickname 'City of Art Nouveau.' It serves as the birthplace of composer Zoltán Kodály and hosts numerous museums including Hungary's only Photography Museum.

Food
Kecskemét is in a fruit-growing region. Pálinka (fruit brandy) is the local specialty. Traditional Hungarian restaurants offer meals from Ft 900-2400.
Money
Hungary uses the Forint (Ft/HUF). ATMs are widely available. Credit cards accepted at larger hotels and restaurants but carry cash for smaller establishments and markets.
Transport
Train station (MÁV Vasútállomás) at Kodály Zoltán tér, 10 minutes east of downtown. Hourly trains to Budapest (Ft 1460+520 reservation, 1h20m) and Szeged (Ft 1350, 1h40m).
Weather
Continental climate with hot summers (June-August) and cold winters. Best visiting months are May-September for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
