Overview
Katsuyama is a small rural city in Fukui Prefecture that punches above its weight with one of the world's largest dinosaur museums, excellent ski resorts, and historic temple sites. Ski Jam day passes cost ¥4,500. Quick Liner overnight buses from Osaka (Shin-Osaka) to Ski Jam cost ¥7,500-12,500 including day pass.
Money
Major attractions charge ¥200-720. The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is free every third Sunday of the month.
Transport
The Echizen Railway Katsuyama-Eiheiji Line connects Katsuyama to Fukui in 53 minutes for ¥770. Buses run from Fukui City and Ono.
Weather
Winter brings excellent powder snow. Summer hiking season runs June-September with alpine flowers in July-August. May features white spathes on Mount Toritate.
